  • Area third and fourth grade students have had the opportunity to learn more about agriculture through the local K-State Research & Extension Ag In the Classroom program. This program informs the youth about the farming and ranching that occurs in McPherson County and the State of Kansas.
Recently Francis Stucky, a farm wife and retired teacher, shared with the students information on corn, soybeans, sorghum and sunflowers. The youth had the opportunity to unload their "shopping cart" and see just what their products were made from. They were surprised at how many products come from the crops that are grown in McPherson County.
The goal of this program is to help the youth better understand the role agriculture plays in their lives and in the community they live in.
It is funded by local farmers within the community and is taught to half the schools in the county every other year.
For more information on this program contact the McPherson County Extension Office.
Jonie James is a McPherson County Extension agent for agriculture.
