  • Bethany College will announce its new football coaching staff at a press conference on Monday.
The press conference will be held at 1 p.m. in Lindquist Hall in Wallerstedt Learning Center on the Bethany College campus.
According to a press release, Interim Athletic Director Scott McClure will introduce the Swedes’ new head football coach, “who will share his vision for the future of Bethany football.”
The press release states the Swedes new head football coach brings previous head coaching experience at the NCAA Division I and II levels and twice served on Coach Bill Snyder's staff at Kansas State University.
Further, the assistant coaching staff will also be introduced Monday.
The press release states Bethany’s new assistant coaches have a combined 30 years collegiate coaching experience. In addition, they have apparently amassed 14 conference championships, eight collegiate National Championship appearances and four collegiate National Championship titles.
The new coach will replace former Swede coach Jamie Cruce, who resigned on Jan. 5 after five seasons with Bethany.
Cruce’s Swedes went 4-7 overall in 2012 and 2-7 in the KCAC. Over his six seasons at the helm of the Bethany football program, he was 26-34, with his most successful season coming in 2011, where the Swedes went 8-3 (6-3 KCAC).
Defensive Coordinator Nick Taylor had been serving as the interim head coach since Cruce’s resignation and had been in consideration to take over the program. However, the Bethany College athletics webpage no longer listed Taylor as coach as of Thursday.
