Phyllis M. Banta, 73, of McPherson, passed away at 5:55 a.m., Friday, March 22, peacefully, at McPherson Hospital, McPherson, Kan.
Phyllis was born in San Luis Obispo, Calif., on May 6, 1939, the daughter of Pauline Evelyn (Lambeth) Watson, and Dale Charles Vanderbilt.
Phyllis attended the Ellsworth schools and graduated from Ellsworth High School, Ellsworth, Kan. She then attended and graduated Magna Cum Laud with a degree in accounting and business from McPherson College, McPherson, Kan.
She was a member of Missouri Synod Lutheran Church of Ellsworth, Kan.
Phyllis was a homemaker and worked as a accountant for several private businesses including Hedlund Electric in McPherson and Northview in Newton, Kan., and worked in the catalog department for J.C. Penney. She retired in 1996.
Phyllis was united in marriage to Richard Daniel Banta on Nov. 29, 1957, at McPherson, Kan.
Surviving family members include her loving and devoted husband of over 55 years, Richard Banta, of McPherson, Kan.; her mother Pauline E. Watson, of Salina, Kan.; her brother Charles Vanderbilt and his wife Angela Kay, of Brookville, Kan.; her sister Rosalie Harris, of Salina, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her father Dale Vanderbilt, a son, Terry Wayne Banta; and a brother, Jimmie C. Vanderbilt.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 28, at the Pleasantview Cemetery, Glendale, Kan., with Chaplin Chris Craft officiating. The casket will be closed.
