Ryan Brandon Rhoads, 38, of Lindsborg, Kan., died on Saturday, March 23, at his home in Lindsborg, Kans.

Ryan Brandon Rhoads, 38, of Lindsborg, Kan., died on Saturday, March 23, at his home in Lindsborg, Kans.

Ryan was born in McPherson, Kan., on Dec. 25, 1974, the son of Vickie  J. (Hedlund) and Robert Doyle Rhoads.

Ryan attended the Roosevelt Grade School, McPherson and the Marquette Grade School, and graduated from Marquette Middle School.  He graduated from Smokey Valley High School, Lindsborg, Kansas in 1993.  Ryan then attended and graduated from the automotive school, Universal Technical Institute in Phoenix, Ariz.

Through the years, Ryan worked for Hedlund Electric, a car dealership in Emporia as a mechanic, was a machine operator for a plastics company in McPherson, worked as a maintenance man for Buildex in Marquette, Kan., was a roustabout for Charlie Casebeer's Oil Company.

Ryan was gifted with strong mechanical hands.  His gift was helpful to the many people who asked for help to get back on the road. He enjoyed the challenge of finding out what was wrong and would get excited when he discovered the solution. During High School he played basketball and was a big KU fan.  He enjoyed being a mechanic in the pits for local dirt track races, rebuilding his Jeep and four wheeling with his friends at tuttle creek.

Surviving family members include his parents, Vickie J. Flores and her husband Dennis, of Marquette, Kan., and Doyle Rhoads and his wife Daina, of Lindsborg, Kan.; his half-brother, Noah Flores, of Marquette, Kan., and his half-sister, Maya Flores, of Marquette, Kan.; his grandmother, Ruth Flores of Humbolt, Kan.; his uncles and aunts, Greg Rhoads and his wife Mindy, of Marquette, Kan., Pam Unruh, of McPherson, Kan. Terry Hedlund and his wife Lilly, of McPherson, Kan., David Cepure, of Lindsborg, Kan., Sylvia Peters and her husband John, of Olathe, Kan., Cindy Aldape and her husband Joel, of Lenexa, Kan., and Yolanda Bartlett and her husband Rick, of Humbolt, Kan.; several cousins, other relatives and a host of friends.

Ryan was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Victor Arnold and Joyce Rosalyn Hedlund; paternal grandparents, Robert D. and Bonnie Rhoads; a step-sister Brittany Columbine Gross; and a cousin Travis Hedlund.

The memorial service will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 29, 2013., at the Freemount Lutheran Church, Lindsborg, Kansas with Reverend James A. Harrison officiating.
