    1.  Why are you running for a seat on the school board?
I am passionate about USD 418 and the initiatives that we currently have in place. I believe we are a unique school district receiving national attention, and I want to be a part of the special things that are happening within our district.
    2. What would you like to accomplish as a school board member?
I would like to work towards furthering our waiver with the state to include exemption for all grades from state testing. In addition, I would like to see us continue the work on our C3 initiative focusing more on the career aspect at an even earlier age. As an adviser, I see students perform better once they have the career piece in place. I would like to assist the board in developing this.
    3. What if anything do you think the state needs to do to reform the school funding formula?
I think the state needs to fund what it has promised to fund. Right now, they are not holding up their end of the bargain. While I do not believe money is what determines student achievement, it certainly helps. I believe USD 418 is fiscally responsible and able to do much with what it has.
    4. What role do you think the Kansas Legislature and the Kansas courts should have in determining funding and curriculum for Kansas’ schools? What role do you think local school boards should have?
I think the local boards should have more control on funding and curriculum. As is clear with our district, when you have the right people in place with great ideas, wonderful things can be accomplished. The local boards are more in touch with what schools need, and I think they should ultimately have the final say.
    5. Do you support the USD 418 bond issue. Please explain.
Absolutely. Leave it to USD 418 to come up with a bond issue that actually lowers taxes! The items needed in this bond issue are essential, and I support anything that improves our schools. In the long run, these upgrades will save the district money. It is important to maintain buildings and structures, and I see nothing but need in this issue.
