      position on the board.

Elections for this and other board and city races will be onTuesday.
  • Age: 33
Education: High school diploma; college experience (Emporia State University)
    Occupation: Grocery Sales Manager (Dillons)
Experience: 10 years management; My leadership skills have proved to get results
    1. Why are you running for a seat on the School Board?
I wanted to get more involved with my daughter’s education. I felt that this opportunity would allow me to do that, plus giving back to my community.  I also bring a unique perspective, as I was a student in USD 418, and now as a parent, I want to continue making USD 418 a great place to attend school.
    2. What would you like to accomplish as a School Board member?
As a School Board member, I want to be the voice of our kids. My goal is to have a positive impact on students that will help them be successful, in whatever direction they chose to go.
    3. What, if anything, do you think the State needs to do to reform the school funding formula?
More money needs to be funded to our schools.  Our students are the future and it seems that they keep getting cut short of their potential.
    4. What role do you think the Kansas Legislature and the Kansas courts should have in determining funding and curriculum for Kansas’ schools?  What role do you think local school boards should have?
While our judicial system has checks and balances, it seems when it comes to funding, they seem out of touch with reality. The funding impacts our students and we, as citizens, need to be more involved to make sure our kids are a priority.  USD 418 has lead the way with the C3 Initiative. By allowing our School Board to change the way testing is done, and prepare our children for ALL avenues post graduation, our workforce will be highly trained and ready to serve us.
    5. Do you support the USD 418 bond issue? Please explain.
Yes, a series of maintenance needs have to be addressed.  Along with providing our students with a better environment to develop and grow. The bond will provide a better opportunity for our kids to be successful as young adults.
