  • The Bethany softball team played a rescheduled doubleheader on April Fool's Day against Hastings College, splitting with the Broncos.
Game one saw a 5-2 win for the Swedes. Camille McIver took the mound for all seven innings, recording two strikeouts and two earned runs.
Nicole Felker, Jasmine Zaker, Jensen Wolff, Courtney Lomax, and Emily Causey scored one run each.
The Swedes also gained three stolen bases by Wolff, Zaker, and Lomax.
The nightcap game tested the Swedes' execution but they succumbed the 2-1 loss to the Broncos.
Zaker hit a single in the bottom of the third to bring Felker home. The Swedes took the 1-0 lead.
Hastings came back in the fifth to tie the game at 1. In the seventh, the Broncos plated one more to claim the late 2-1 victory.
Kierstin Stolley was on the hill for the game striking out two Broncos and incurring one earned run.
"We had good defense and timely hits in game one,” Bethany Coach Janice Esses said. “Game two we left too many runners on base and did not get timely hits.”
Consistency and execution on offense continue to plague the Swedes (16-12).
“We need to find it quickly because from here on out every conference game is an important one," Esses said.
The next match-up for the Swedes will be a conference doubleheader today at home against McPherson College. The first pitch is set for 5 p.m.
