Goldie M. McMurray, 88, of Canton, died April 1, 2013, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, Wichita. She was an accomplished pianist, organist and retired piano teacher.
She was born June 18, 1924, in Goessel, the daughter of Martin and Linda (Dalke) Wedel. On Sept. 23, 1960, she married Glenn E. McMurray in Goessel. He preceded her in death on June 13, 2008.
A lifetime Goessel/Canton area resident, she was a member of the Canton United Methodist Church and had served as the church organist for more than 50 years.
Survivors include three sons, Jan (Martha) Wilson, Huntsville, Texas, Don McMurray, Greenfield, Wis., and Hal (Julie) Wilson, McPherson; one daughter, Wendy (Kim) Brotton, Canton; a daughter-in-law, Jo Ellen Wilson, Lyons; four brothers, Gib (Sharon) Wedel, Canton, Bob (Rosie) Wedel, Lyons, Don (Ava) Wedel, El Dorado and Rod (Patti) Wedel, Newton; a sister, Irene Wiebe, Spring, Texas; 10 grandchildren, Jason (Brandi) Wilson, Jody Wilson, Michelle (Rod) Armstrong, Brett Wilson, Bridget Wilson, Justin (Joanna) Doane, Ashley Wilson, Jessi Wilson, Jami Lawless and Jill (Matt) Lee; and 12 great-grandchildren, Lakin Wilson, Corbin Hysom, Darrius Armstrong, Halle Armstrong, Jada Armstrong, Kaiden Wilson, Ke‘Lonnie Wilson, Kerrick Wilson, Jackson Wilson, Madison Doane, Morgan Doane and Jaden Doane.
A son, Kim Wilson, two brothers, Harold and Arnie Wedel and a great-grandchild preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 6, 2013, at the Canton United Methodist Church.
Interment will precede at Canton Township Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m., Friday, April 5, 2013, at Olson’s Mortuary, Canton.
A memorial has been established with the Canton United Methodist Church in care of the mortuary.
