Spring arrived just in time for the McPherson Invitational golf tournament Thursday at Turkey Creek Golf Course, with Hutchinson High School claiming the team title.
MHS junior Dylan Blosser, the Bullpups’ lone state competitor from 2012, finished 18th in the individual rankings with a score of 82 for the 18 holes. Sophomore TJ Stites also logged a Top 30 finish by shooting an 85.
Rounding out the Bullpup scoring, Blake Brown shot an 88, senior Brandon McMillan had a 93, Casey Cheek was just behind with a 94 and Sam Minnich shot a 105.
Maize’s Kale Reynolds took the individual scoring with a 67. Reynolds was followed by Sterling’s Michael Hendricks (74), Hutchinson’s Turner Wintz (75), Derby’s Jeremy Dunham (75) and Hutchinson’s Jack Howard (75).
Hutchinson, as a team, shot a combined 318 to claim first place. Buhler was second with a 323, followed by Arkansas City with a 324. Maize came in fourth with a 325, while Newton and Derby tied for fifth with scores of 329.
As a team, McPherson shot a 348. Other teams competing in the invitational were Hays (331), Sterling (338), Great Bend (343), Winfield (345), El Dorado (353) and Campus (449).
Next action for the Bullpups is Tuesday afternoon for the Newton Invitational. Tee time is slated for 3 p.m. at Sand Creek Station Golf Course.
