  • One stat really sums up Monday’s doubleheader between McPherson and Augusta.
The losing team put up 28 runs between the two games.
The Pups were swept by the Orioles 16-15 and 15-13 in what was a home run derby of sorts due to high winds and poor field conditions.
“It was like trying to play defense on a busted up parking lot, in terms of the extreme roughness of both the infield and outfield,” MHS coach Cody Stucky said.
The Pups battled back from a 10-7 deficit going into the seventh inning, scoring eight runs to take a 15-10 lead. The offensive onslaught in the seventh was helped along by grand slams from both Azaria Romero, who had three home runs total in the game, and Jasmine Wann.
Augusta then took the win in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the frame, scoring six runs to win.
    Madison Hoffman took the loss.
MHS fought back from a 15-6 deficit heading into the seventh inning of game two but couldn’t quite complete the rally, falling 15-13.
Chelsey Kerr had a big game, going 3-for-4 with three RBI’s and a two-run home run. Marissa Axelson took the loss after working one inning and giving up six runs.
“The girls showed a lot of fight and never gave up,” MHS coach Cody Stuck said, “but when you score 28 runs on the night, it is very discouraging to not at least come away with a split.”
McPherson falls to 5-3 (4-0 AVCTL Div. III) with the losses.
The Bullpups will be on the road once again Friday, as they will face Circle in a make-up from April 4.
First pitch will be at 4:30 p.m.
