  • The McPherson High girls soccer team may have started the season a little rough, but head coach Chris Adrian thinks, with Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Rose Hill, the Bullpups have turned a corner.
“If you saw us play during the McPherson tournament a few weeks ago,” he said, “you may not recognize the team you see today.”
Adrian is seeing improvement from his large underclass, which he says is coming at a rapid pace.
Evidence of that improvement came Tuesday, as the Pups found themselves down 1-0 less than a minute into the game.
MHS brushed themselves off, however, and fired right back, thanks to the senior duo of Hailey Ruder and Colleen O’Connor. O’Connor set up Ruder for a goal barely a minute after the Rockets scored, tying the game at 1-1.
Ruder would pick up the second McPherson goal at about the 20 minute mark, as a Paige Schmidt shot on goal was deflected right to Ruder, who chipped the ball over the Rose Hill goalie’s head.
“This was a huge win for the girls,” Adrian said. This was the first time we have had back-to-back wins and it was also the first time we played a division school.”
The JV squad also emerged victorious against the Rockets, winning 2-0. Michelle Carrillo scored both MHS goals.
