The Galva City Council approved groundbreaking to begin on the Canton-Galva middle school during its last council meeting April 1.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place on Wednesday, where school representatives broke the plotted ground with golden shovels.
The middle school is adding additional classrooms and a second gymnasium.
Council members also requested that school contractors fill out the building permit. The total will be figured, then waived.
In other business:
• City Superintendent Mark Hoppes notified council members of the need to have the water tower drained and inspected on April 8 and monitored for times of low water pressure.
• Council members approved a budget of $22,450 to upgrade the water well system to wireless controls.
