Better bones: In addition to taking calcium supplements to strengthen your bones, you also could be drinking alcohol. Yes, alcohol. A study by researchers at Oregon State University found that drinking modest amounts of alcohol improves a women's bone density. Moderate drinking means you would drink between one half to two drinks daily or close to daily.
40.3 million: That's the number of people 65 and older in the United States, says the U.S. Census Bureau.
This number accounts for 13 percent of the total population. In 2010, this age group was larger than in any other decennial census. It's up from 31.2 million in 1990 and 35 million in 2000.
Relationship status: Nearly three-quarters of women 60 and older reported being married or in a relationship, according to a recent poll of 1,200 by More magazine. Sixty-six percent of the women in the relationships gave themselves an A or a B on the success of their relationship.
Going back in time: About half of the women who never had children were childless by choice, according to a poll of women 60 and older by More magazine. And three-quarters of the women who were childless by choice said that if they could go back in time, they'd still decide to forgo having children. Translation: Go with your gut -- it's probably right.
