  • Bethany College senior artist Michelle S. Stebens will exhibit her senior art show, “Intricate Design,” at Mingenback Art Center on campus through Tuesday.
A reception will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday,  with a gallery talk by the artist at 2:30 p.m. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public
Stebens, from Carmen, Okla., is majoring in art administration with a studio focus in painting. She was inspired to make art early on from watching her uncle draw and paint. She improved throughout middle school and high school with direction from her teachers.
Stebens’ work at Bethany has been driven by “an obsession” with color and pattern, intricate details within pattern, and the clarity and starkness of the implementation of white and black drawing and printing. When she graduates, Stebens plans to move to Houston and find her career path through the museums in the surrounding area.
Mingenback Art Center is located on the corner of Olsson and Second Street on the Bethany College campus. It is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mingenback houses the premier center for art instruction in the region and a gallery devoted to the work of regional artists and Bethany College students and alumni. The Bethany College Art Department recognizes that open and rigorous inquiry is essential to a liberal-arts education. Because art reflects life, art made and displayed within the Mingenback Art Center may address mature themes.
