  • Multi Community Diversified Services, Inc.  held its second annual “Teams for Dreams” charity softball tournament at Saturday Wall Park.
Ten teams from all over the central Kansas region, and even as far as Oklahoma, participated in the event including an MCDS team of staff and clients.
“I had a lot of fun,” said Ashley Hudson, an MCDS client who watched several of the games.  “It was a nice day.”
Kiley Herring, one of the organizers of the tournament, thought that the second year event ran very smoothly, in part due to hiring certified umpires.
“Since this was our second time holding the tournament, things went really well.  Having the certified umpires helped keep things running on time,” Herring said.
A grant from the Convention and Visitors Bureau of McPherson helped to offset some of the cost for hiring the umpires.
All funds raised by the tournament will be used to support the general mission of the organization to promote community inclusion and employment opportunities for MCDS clients.
Due to the success of the event, Herring and the MCDS team plan to make the tournament a yearly fundraiser.
“We will definitely be planning another tournament,” she said.
MCDS is a non-profit organization that provides services and supports to individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities in McPherson, Lindsborg and Newton.
