Two fire hydrants — one located at First Street and North High Drive, and the other at First Street and Myers Street — will be relocated a few feet back from First Street.
Also being relocated is the water line near the street, in preparation for the installation of a new storm sewer.
Tim Maier, general manager for the Board of Public Utilities, said the fire hydrants are being moved in preparation for the First Street project, which will take place later this summer. The project seeks to rebuild First Street and improve the condition of the road.
The relocation is also in preparation for new traffic lanes being installed at McPherson High School. The lanes will aid in the flow of traffic from the high school onto First Street and North High Drive.
Maier said the fire department will still have access to the hydrants during First Street reconstruction.
