April 17, 1949 to April 17, 2013.
Leta was born to Juanita (Rankin) and Fred Nichols on April 17, 1949, in Portland, Ore. She, her mother and aunt, Carmaleta Rankin, moved to McPherson to be near their relatives.
Leta attended McPherson schools, graduating from McPherson High School in 1967 and then on to Central Christian College in McPherson where she graduated in 1969.
Leta and Ron were married on May 29, 1969, in the First United Methodist Church chapel in McPherson.
To this union came their daughter, Beth Carmen in 1971 and William Patrick in 1978.
Leta’s greatest joys were being surrounded by family, which included one granddaughter, Kira. She loved adopting wounded or strayed animals, including dogs, cats and anything else that would wonder to her door. Her love of helping those in need grew to include several special-needs children who she and Ron brought into their home.
After suffering for many years with Post-Polio Syndrome, COPD and other related illnesses, Leta was diagnosed with a very aggressive cancer that spread very quickly. Leta went to be with her heavenly father on April 17, 2013, which was not only her celebration day in heaven but also her 64th birthday.
Our family celebrates Leta’s freedom through Christ from years of agonizing illness and look forward to the time when we also will be called “home” and once again have our loving family together.
Survivors are Ronald Lynn, her loving husband of 44 years, daughter Beth Carman, William Patrick, granddaughter Kira and two cousins, Joan Finley of Galva, and Tom Rankin of Portland, Ore.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at Bring’s Broadway Chapel, 6910 E. Broadway, Tucson, Ariz. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2013, also at Bring’s Broadway Chapel, with burial following at 1 p.m. at Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Sierra Vista, Ariz.
