  • Speckle Your Shirt run raises money for United Way

  • On April 13, the streets of McPherson were bombarded with runners and color as the YMCA hosted its annual 5K Family Fun Run/Walk to benefit United Way of McPherson County. This year’s event was themed “Speckle Your Shirt” and included the first-ever color run in McPherson. Fun was had by all, including 125 participants and more than 50 volunteers.

I commend the YMCA for planning an entertaining event and forwarding the proceeds to our organization.
In addition, many volunteers deserve recognition including staff members from CASA, the McPherson High School track and girls’ soccer teams, students from McPherson College and youth from the McPherson Church of the Brethren.
The festive event included live music performed by United Worship, a group of local young adults dedicated to music performance. Their voices filled the morning air with song and encouraged participants to embrace the fun-filled moment.
Thank you to Artshirt, Brown’s Shoe Fit, Hometown Tire & Turf, Midway Motors and Walmart. These local businesses were instrumental in helping offset event expenses.
Community fundraisers rely on the support of many. Thank you to those who participated at all levels in the “Speckle Your Shirt” event.
