  • Carl Francis “Pete” Giddings, 90, died peacefully on April 23, 2013, at the VA Community Living Center in Leavenworth.

  • Carl Francis “Pete” Giddings, 90, died peacefully on April 23, 2013, at the VA Community Living Center in Leavenworth.
    Carl was born to Bill and Clara Giddings in Beloit. He graduated from Beloit High School and shortly after which he joined the Army.
    He was awarded the Bronze Star for his courageous service in WWII as a member of the 17th Airborne and glider infantry, after seeing action in France and Germany.
    Following the war, he worked more than 35 years for Southwestern Bell in various labor and management positions in Topeka, McPherson, Clay Center, Norton and other towns across Kansas.
    Carl married Mildred Ruth Drummond of Asherville in 1942. They celebrated their 50th anniversary prior to her death in 1992.
    He was a proud Mason who loved hunting, fishing and gardening.
    Carl is survived by his son Monte Giddings (Jill); granddaughter Caitlin Giddings of Allentown, Pa.; granddaughter Ashley Walz (Nicholas) of Kansas City, Mo.; and great-grandchildren Maddie, Lily, Jude, Noah and Silas Walz.
    He is preceded in death by his wife Millie, parents and older siblings Eddie, Esther, Johnnie and Lawney.
    The family wishes to thank the medical staff at the VA Health System for the loving care.
    Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Porters Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 1 at Elmwood Cemetery in Beloit.
    Contributions may be made to the Kansas School for Ministry, (Giddings Memorial).
