Local students have been awarded scholarships to Fort Hays State University for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Jessica Crouch, a 2013 McPherson High School graduate, was awarded a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in education and an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. Crouch is the daughter of Benjamin and Jennifer Crouch, McPherson. She plans to major in elementary education.Reagan Dougherty, a 2013 Little River High School graduate, was awarded a $1,200 Miller Black and Gold Academic Award. Dougherty is the daughter of Milt and Marti Dougherty, Little River. She plans a career in nutrition.Roger Teeter, a 2013 Little River High School graduate, was awarded an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. Teeter is the son of Jim and Jo Teeter, Windom. He plans to major in computer science.Jared Friesen, a 2013 Inman High School graduate, was awarded a $2,000 Fort Hays State University Presidential Award and a $1,200 Miller Black and Gold Academic Award. Friesen is the son of Jeff and Nancy Friesen, Inman. He plans to major in graphic design.Amber Otte, a 2013 Moundridge High School graduate, was awarded a $700 Fort Hays Bronze Academic Award and a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in education. Otte is the daughter of Lance and Danielle Otte, Galva. She plans to major in early childhood education.Alyssa Sharpe, a 2013 Smoky Valley High School graduate, was awarded a $1,200 Miller Black and Gold Academic Award. Sharpe is the daughter of Brett and Lea Ann Sharpe, Lindsborg. She plans to major in nursing.The scholarship process for the 2013-2014 academic year will continue into the fall. Many students who have already accepted some scholarships continue to apply for and accept different awards.
