  • At the invitation of Governor Sam Brownback, students across Kansas will attend the 30th Annual Governor’s Scholars Award Program Sunday in Topeka.

  • At the invitation of Governor Sam Brownback, students across Kansas will attend the 30th Annual Governor’s Scholars Award Program Sunday in Topeka.
    The recognition ceremony will honor the top academic 1 percent of Kansas high school seniors.
    Scholars are selected from accredited public and private schools in the state.
    This program is coordinated for the governor by the Confidence in Kansas Public Education Task Force and is funded by donations from private sector businesses in Kansas.
    American Association of University Women, Kansas Association of School Boards, Kansas Congress of Parents and Teachers, Kansas State Board of Education, Kansas State Department of Education, Kansas-National Education Association, Kansas School Public Relations Association, Kansas State High School Activities Association, Kansas League of Women Voters, Kansas Partners in Education and United School Administrators of Kansas are all members of the Confidence in Kansas Public Education Task Force.
    Other dignitaries attending include Deputy Commissioner of Education Dale M. Dennis; Kansas Teacher of the Year Dyane Smokorowski; State Board of Education members Kathy Busch, Deena Horst, Jim McNiece, Jana Shaver, Janet Waugh and Carolyn Wims-Campbell; and President of Washburn University Dr. Jerry Farley.

    • Moundridge High School, Moundridge, Sarah Ullom-Minnich
