  • After a rough trip to Mulvane Thursday, McPherson High got back on track with a sweep of AVCTL Division III foe Rose Hill Monday at Grant Sports Complex.
The Pups won game one 8-6 and cruised to a 13-3 game two victory in front of a home crowd, the first they had been in front of in nearly a month.
“Anytime you take almost the whole road schedule consecutively, it’s kind of a grind,” MHS coach Cody Stucky said. “We’d lost some close ones on the road, so it was nice to get some home cooking.”
The Pups (11-5) battled with Rose Hill throughout game one, with both teams never really getting the knock-out blow until McPherson’s Chelsey Kerr knocked in an RBI single in the fifth inning that gave McPherson a 7-6 advantage. They would score again a few minutes later and carry the lead through the rest of the game.
Abby Steiner pitched a complete game in the first outing, while Marissa Axelson took the win in game two’s 13-3 drubbing.
“(Steiner) was solid in the first game,” Stucky said. “We just made a few defensive errors.”
The Pups are at home Friday in a triangular with Great Bend and Salina South.
    Box score information was unavailable.
