  • McPherson College only took one of a four-game series with NAIA No. 18 Sterling College this weekend, but that one game was enough to make Bulldog history.
The Bulldogs won game one of a Saturday doubleheader 3-1, which was just enough to squeeze Mac College into the KCAC Tournament this week at Hobart-Detter Field in Hutchinson.
The Bulldogs put three runs on the board in the opening inning of Saturday’s game one. They held Sterling scoreless for all but the fourth inning when the Warriors scored their lone run, giving MC a 3-1 victory.
Tyler Watie got the starting nod for McPherson and threw for four innings. He surrendered the two hits and one run while putting out 12 batters.  Taylor Werts came in relief and earned the save for the Bulldogs.
Game two was another low-scoring affair. Mac was the first to put up a run as Zach Wilson homered in the fourth.
The Warriors answered in the sixth with one of their own, forcing extra innings after neither team scored in the seventh.
Sterling was able to get a runner across in their half of the eighth to take the win 2-1.
Sterling erupted in the final game of the series Sunday, winning 19-8 after Mac led 8-4 going into the bottom of the fourth.
McPherson will enter the KCAC Tournament as the fifth seed and will face No. 4 seed Friends University tonight at 7 p.m. A win will have the Bulldogs facing Tabor on Wednesday at 3 p.m. A loss means they face the loser of Sterling/Bethany, also on Wednesday.
