Fifth-graders, eighth-graders and teams of adults can participate in a variety of games and activities on May 10 and 11 at Linnea Park.
The Madathon is an annual event as part of All Schools Day. Registration forms can be downloaded at www.allschoolsday.com and are due Friday. They can be mailed or dropped off to David Harger, Madathon chairperson, at 120 W. Kansas Ave., Suite B, McPherson KS 67460. If mailed, the forms must be received before Saturday.
The Madathon isn't a competition. Prizes are handed out instead to teams based on sportsmanship, spirit and enthusiasm.
There are some rules to team composition. For fifth- and eighth- graders, the teams must be comprised of five boys, five girls, at least one alternate boy and girl, an adult coach, and at least one adult volunteer to help at the event. The participants are asked to be from the same school. Harger asked he be contacted before students from other schools are included in the teams. More than one team per school also is requested.
For adults, the teams must be comprised of a man and a woman between ages 20 and 29, a man and a woman between ages 30 and 39, a man and woman that are both at least 40 years old and a man and a woman that are both at least 20 years old. The ages requirements are as of May 11, and all participants must be McPherson County residents.
Each team also is asked to provide a volunteer for the event. Volunteers are requested for 5 p.m. on May 10, after the eighth-grade competition, and at 7 a.m. on May 11 to help set up the adult competition. Volunteers can sign up for their preferred time after the team's registration form is submitted.
There is no cost to enter the event, but teams are asked to have All Schools Day buttons.
A mandatory meeting for teams will be at 8 p.m. May 8 at the McPherson Chamber of Commerce Office. At least one participant per team is requested. No exceptions will be made. Representatives can purchase ASD buttons from Harger at the meeting.
The youth event will begin at 9 a.m., and teams are asked to be on site no later than 8:45 a.m. Participants in the event will get wet and dirty, and are asked to dress appropriately.
