  • Predicted inclement weather today has forced the KCAC to postpone and relocate the KCAC Softball Tournament, which includes both McPherson College and Bethany College.
The tournament was scheduled for today and tomorrow at Hummer Sports Park in Topeka, but the threat of yet another unseasonal winter blast led to KCAC officials to move it to Hutchinson’s Fun Valley Sports Complex on Friday and Saturday.
The Swedes (28-14, 14-4 KCAC) are the No. 2 seed and will play the No. 7 seed University of Saint Mary (5-13) on Friday at 11 a.m. on Field 2.
Bethany swept Southwestern College last week to end their regular season, clinching third place in the conference in the process. They ended the season on an eight game win streak.
McPherson, meanwhile, won five of their last six, picking the perfect time to come on strong in the KCAC.
The Bulldogs (9-20, 5-11 KCAC) got into the tournament as the No. 8 seed after defeating Sterling College 2-0 on Monday in a game delayed from Friday by rain.
It was a fast-paced competition with multiple three up, three downs. McPherson scored the game’s lone runs in the third inning and held on for the rest of the way.
In a not so common way, Ariel McGee got aboard a team-high two times. The first was getting hit by a pitch as the opening batter for McPherson and the other was a walk in the third.
Amanda (Grace) Baxter also got on twice as she led the squad in hits with two, both singles. McKenna Deckard and Jenna Kaiser logged the team’s two RBI’s.
Recording the complete game for Mac College was Alison Love who threw to 25 batters and put out 19, four of which were strikeouts.
The Lady Bulldogs will play top-seeded Friends University Friday at 11 a.m.
The KCAC Championship team gets an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships May 24-30 in Columbus, Ga.
