  • The Smoky Valley baseball and softball teams went 3-1 Tuesday against Halstead, including a 19-strikeout performance from Lady Viking pitcher Eryn Stockman.
    Stockman’s efforts came in game one of the softball doubleheader, leading Smoky Valley to an 8-2 win.
    In addition to her work on the mound, Stockman also had two hits for the Vikings, who scored two in the first and six in the second on their way to the win.
    Hannah McBride had a double and three RBI’s for the Vikings, while Maddie Klotzbach had two hits, including a triple, and picked up two RBI’s.
    Smoky Valley (10-4) scored in every inning of a run-rule shortened game two, downing Halstead 15-0.
    Hannah McBride pitched game two, picking up four strikeouts. Stockman went 1-for-1 at the plate and was walked twice. She picked up three RBI’s and three runs scored. Keni Campbell had three hits, including two doubles, and scored three runs.
    Game one of the Smoky Valley baseball double header was a high scoring affair, with the Vikings taking the 18-17 decision.
    The Vikings scored five in the first and eight in the second to take the lead, though Halstead kept fighting, tying the game up in the top of the seventh.
    Hunter Cook hit the game-winning single in the seventh to get the Smoky Valley win.
    Kevin Smith picked up the win for Smoky Valley (3-9). Andy Osner and Trevor Whittaker led the offense by both going 2-for-3 with one triple each.
    Halstead bounced back in game two, winning 17-7. An eight run third inning caused the damage for Smoky Valley.
    Osner took the loss and Smith had the hot hand offensively, going 3-for-4 with two doubles.
    The Vikings are slated for a road game with Kingman today, weather permitting.
