  • MBA baseball takes second at Great Bend

  • The McPherson MBA 14-year-old traveling baseball team went 3-1 recently, taking second in the Survive and Advance Great Bend Baseball Tournament.

  • The McPherson MBA 14-year-old traveling baseball team went 3-1 recently, taking second in the Survive and Advance Great Bend Baseball Tournament.
    McPherson defeated Haven in game one 15-5 off the arm of Raine Reitsma, who struck out five and allowed only four hits.
    Jack Riefschneider was 3-for-3 with a double to lead the offense. Alex Sitts and Mikey Saverino both went 2-for-3.
    Game two was a little tighter for McPherson, as they outlasted the Barton Bandits 9-7.
    Riefschneider scored three runs on offense and picked up the win on the mound with three strike outs. Reitsma, Casen Hoover and Jeffrey Reed all scored two runs, each.
    McPherson then defeated host Great Bend in the semifinals 12-7.
    Once again, the winning pitcher also helped his cause the most offensively, as Alex Kalkhorst went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBI’s.
    Dylan Baldwin and Reed both had doubles, while Baldwin drove in three runs. Reitsma went 1-for-2, but had 2 RBI’s.
    McPherson faltered in the title championship game, falling to the Reno County Red Sox 9-2.
    Tyler Wheat led McPherson by going 2-for-2 with a double. Kalkhorst went 2-for-3 with two RBI’s, while Reifschneider had a double.
    The team is coached by Rob Reitsma and Robert Lasalle.
