  • MHS takes second at regionals

  • For the first time since 1996, McPherson High will be sending a full contingent to the state tennis meet, as all six Bullpups were qualified following the conclusion of the Class 4A Regionals at Smoky Valley High School Monday.

  • For the first time since 1996, McPherson High will be sending a full contingent to the state tennis meet, as all six Bullpups were qualified following the conclusion of the Class 4A Regionals at Smoky Valley High School Monday.
    As a team, MHS came up just short of Hesston, finishing second.
    Ben Davidson and Max Pyle went undefeated for the two days of the Regional, going 4-0. They defeated Hesston’s Dean Dahlsten and Peter Jensen 6-2, 6-1 for the doubles championship.
    Ryan and Peter Horton finished fourth for McPherson, falling to Kaynan Anderson and Connor Kijowski in a competitive third place match (4-6, 7-5, 6-2).
    On the singles side, Connor Schafer finished fourth, falling to Hesston’s Collin Martin 6-4, 6-2 in the third place match.
    Junior Dylan Stos took sixth, falling to Buhler’s Tyler Wright in the fifth place match. Stos fought the whole way, though, falling 6-3, 2-6, 3-6.
    Abilene’s Matthew Barlow took first in the singles competition, defeating Hesston’s Keegan LeFevre in the championship game.
    Hesston finished with 18 team points, followed by McPherson with 17. Abilene was third (12), with Buhler (8), Circle (2) and Concordia (1) rounding out the team points.
    State begins Friday and continues into Saturday statewide. The Class 4A meet will be hosted by Wichita Collegiate, utilizing their courts, as well as courts at Genesis Tennis and Fitness Club on North Rock Road and the Wichita Country Club.
