Mary Elizabeth Erickson, 90, of McPherson, Kan., passed away at 6 p.m., Friday, May 10, suddenly at her home.
Mary was born on Oct. 28, 1922, in rural Utica, daughter of Helen Bernice (Brocher) and Clarence Anderson.
Mary attended the Pleasant Hill grade school and graduated from Utica High School, Utica. She then attended and graduated from Salt City Business College in Hutchinson.
She was a member of New Gottland Lutheran Church, McPherson, where Mary served her church in many capacities through the years.
Mary was a homemaker. She also worked as a secretary for Nelson Supply, and later for Hartmann Manufacturing in Hutchinson. She then moved to McPherson and work as a secretary for N.C.R.A. and McPherson College.
Mary was a member of the Buzzing Bee's and volunteered at the Save-'N-Share.
Mary Elizabeth Anderson was united in marriage to Carl J. Erickson on Nov. 6, 1949, at First United Methodist Church, McPherson. Carl died on Sept. 25, 2008.
Surviving family members include her children, Marlys Elbert and her husband Bruce, of McPherson, Sheryl Fields and her husband Gary, of Las Vegas, Nev., David Erickson, of Peabody, and Ron Erickson, of McPherson; her brother, Harold Anderson, of Utica; her sister, Aleda Schreiber, of Lindsborg; her brother-in-law, Warren Sherwin, of Great Bend; 10 grandchildren, Eli Elbert and wife Tammy, Tyler Elbert and wife Natalie, Erick Elbert, Ryan Fields and Laurie Ackerman, Don Erickson and wife Darcy, Roger Erickson, Gregory Erickson, Christina Hoffmeyer and husband Brad, Andrew Erickson and wife Lauren, and ElKee Erickson; eight great-grandchildren, Brayden Elbert, Zackery Elbert, Jackson Erickson, Edson Hoffmeyer, Rhyker Fields, Hailey Plett, Riley Baker and Jeremy Elbert; many nieces and nephews, and other relatives.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl; sister Alberta Sherwin; and brother Roy Anderson.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2013, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at New Gottland Lutheran Church, rural McPherson.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013, at New Gottland Lutheran Church, McPherson, with Reverend Harry Grinstad officiating.
The final resting place will be in the New Gottland Lutheran Church Cemetery, McPherson.
