  • The McPherson High girls track and field team finished second at the AVCTL Div. III meet Friday, while the boys placed fourth in the league.
The girls had first place finished from Megan Pederson in the high jump (4 feet, 11 inches) and Ivana Moyer, who had a throw of 107 feet, 10 inches in the discus.
Merdith Hess picked up a pair of second place finishes, one in the 200-meter dash (27.44) and again in the 300 hurdles (50.06). Also scoring silver medals were Christina Wankum in the 3,200 (12:19.9), Taylor Scheidegger in the triple jump (31 feet, 8 1/2 inches) Bri Cooks in the shot put (38 feet, 11 1/2 inches) and Bethanie Bouray in the javelin (91 feet, 9 inches).
“We don’t have a whole lot of numbers,” MHS coach Jace Pavlovich said, “but what we do have are quality.”
On the boys side, the Pups were still limping a little, as some of their short-distance sprinters were injured, forcing some substitutions into those races.
Keshawn Sewell had the top boys finish with a first in the triple jump, leaping 44 feet, 10 1/2 inches.
Collin Harvey captured a silver in the 400-meter with a time of 52.56. He was also a part of the second place 4x400 relay team with Joseph Jumonville, Ryen Trost and Kyler Kinnamon. The finished the race 3:34.89.
“There were some uncharacteristic errors on the boys side, which hurt us in the team standings,” Pavlovich said. “Still, there were some incredible efforts tonight.”
The Pups are gearing up for Regionals Friday at Hoyt-Royal Valley High School. The meet begins at 3 p.m.
The State meet is May 24-25 at Wichita State University’s Cessna Stadium.
