  • The Class 2A Moundridge Regional came down to a meeting between two McPherson County rivals Tuesday night, with Inman claiming the championship and the right to move onto the state tournament next week with an 8-1 win over Moundridge.
Both the Teutons and the Wildcats had tough roads to the championship Tuesday, as Inman needed eight innings to defeat Rosalia-Flinthills 7-6.
Inman trailed Flinthills after giving up five runs in the second inning, but the Teutons tied it in the seventh off a Blake Drueker single that drove in a run.
Jon Landerous knocked in what would end up being the winning run in the top of the eighth.
The Wildcats, meanwhile, had a fight from Canton-Galva and needed a Chase Stucky sacrifice fly that drove in a run in the bottom of the seventh to avoid extra innings.
Daniel Ratzlaff led the way for Moundridge by going 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI’s.
Garrett Higgins picked up the win, going 2 1/3 innings and giving up two runs on three hits. He struck out four and walked none.
Higgins also went 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored.
That set up the championship game between the Teutons and the Wildcats, where Moundridge’s bats went cold and Inman took advantage.
The Teutons scored one run in each of the second and third innings, then had two more in the sixth, all of only two hits.
Moundridge got on the scored board in the bottom of the sixth, as Jaden Schmidt drove in Garrett Higgins. The Teutons responded with a four-run seventh inning that included a two-RBI single from Wyatt Regher, who finished the game with four total.
Regher hit 3-for-5 during the game.
Blake Drueker picked up the win, pitching four innings and giving up no runs on four Moundridge hits. He struck out one and walked two.
Inman moves onto the Class 2-1A State Tournament May 23-24 at Emporia-Sodens Grove Baseball Field.
