United Way of McPherson County has granted $1,000 to the Lindsborg Summer Food Service Program.
The designated funds will be used to help cover the cost of meals served to adults who bring children to the summer meal program.
The state-sponsored program provides free meals to children ages 1-19. Additional funding is necessary to offset meals provided to parents and caregivers who accompany children to the meals.
This is the second year for the Lindsborg program. Community volunteers prepare and serve noon meals Monday through Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church during the summer months. The program provided 3,094 children meals and 577 adult meals during 2012.
This year’s program begins Wednesday and will continue until the first day of school in August. It also will include Marquette as a new site under the sponsorship of the Lindsborg program.
