  • McPherson and formerly of Attwood — Gaynor Vincent Carlson, 83, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 2:30 p.m., Friday, May 24, while in the company of family members at his home.
    Gaynor was born on Dec. 30, 1929, in rural Herndon, the son of Florence Marie (Nelson) and Roy Edward Carlson.
    Gaynor attended Linda School, a country school near Herndon, and attended from Decatur County High School. Gaynor then attended Colby Community College and graduated from television repair school in Louisville, Ky.
    Gaynor was a member of First Christian Church of Atwood, where he served as an elder and at times gave the children's sermon. Gaynor was baptized at the rural Eny Lutheran Church where he later taught Sunday School.  
    Gaynor started two companies, Carlson Industries of Atwood, still operated by his son, Vince, and the Bell and Carlson Rifle Stock Company, which he sold. Bell and Carlson is now in operation in Dodge City.  
    Gaynor held five U.S. patents on inventions and was a member of the Lions and Rotary Clubs while living in Atwood, Kansas.
    Gaynor was united in marriage to Helena Fitts on June 16, 1956 at Louisville, Ky.  She died on May 29, 2008.
    Survivors include his children, Vince and wife, Gayle Carlson of rural Oberlin, and Carla and husband, Jerry Barber of McPherson; his step-daughter, Brenda Dinger of Jeffersonville, Ind.; his sister, Lorraine Murray of Evans, Colo.; his brother-in-law, Hershel Masters of Derby; his sister-in-law, Audrey and husband, Paul Thompson of New London, N.C.; four grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, 12 step-great-grandchildren, one step-great-great-grandchild, nieces and nephews; and many friends.
    Gaynor was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Florence Carlson; his wife Helena; sisters, Bernadine Hare and her husband Wilbur, Pauline Masters, and Leona Gamblin; his brother, Delbert Carlson and his wife Ruth; his sister-in-law Sandra Lawrence and his step-son Eddie Brickey.
    Friends are invited to call from 5 to 8 p.m. today with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Glidden-Ediger Chapel, McPherson.
    Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at the Glidden-Ediger Chapel, McPherson, with Reverend Harry Grinstad officiating.
    Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at the Atwood Fairview Cemetery, Atwood, with Reverend Mike McVay officiating.
    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church of Atwood, and they can be sent in care of the Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home; 222 W. Euclid St.; McPherson, KS 67460 or McPherson Museum and Arts Foundation of McPherson, Kansas.
