  • Fred Emerson, 77, had a massive stroke and died on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Medical City, Dallas.
    He was born on July 7, 1935, in McPherson  to Loyd B. (Jack) and Chloe Emerson (both deceased) of McPherson. He had three siblings; Eulalia Karraker (deceased), John L. Emerson who lives in McPherson, and A. Lynne’ Cyphers of Newton.
    He is survived by his wife, Jennia. He had six adult children; Brian, Cynthia Diane and three grandchildren;  Brandon, Drew and Logan. Julia, Ralph, Mike, and Steve (deceased) are from his first marriage to Carmen
    He was retired from the U.S. Army as a Major after 23 years.
    As a non-commissioned officer, he was a sharp shooter in his unit, and later he received a field commission as second lieutenant. He was stationed in Republic of Panama with the 33rd  Infantry Regiment and with the 20th Infantry Regiment.
    After his commission, he did a 13-month tour in Republic of Korea and later a 12-month tour in Vietnam in 1968-69.
    There will be no service or memorials. His remains will be laid to rest sometime in October in Kentucky.
