Farmer's markets provide opportunity for healthy choices and creative cooking.

Last weekend I enjoyed walking the streets of LaVerne, California, during the community's weekly Farmer's Market. There was a wonderful display of traditional vegetables i.e. tomatoes, cucumbers and green peppers. But I also enjoyed seeing the items native to California and wish we could have those selections in Kansas. It was intriguing to see artichoke hearts and horned melons. It was also a surpise to see pumpkins ready at the beginning of June, a true advantage to living in a location where fair year-round weather aids the garden. No matter where one lives, I encourage individuals to check out the nearest farmer's market and indulge in the fresh, organic options. Seasonal changes will provide opportunity for healthy choices and creative cooking.
