  • McPherson High’s girls soccer team was well represented in the Southwest Kansas Soccer Coaches Association’s Class 4-1A All-Region teams announced Tuesday.
The Bullpups finished with four players on the honors lists; two on the first-team and two on the second-team.
Making the first team as offensive players were seniors Colleen O’Connor and Hailey Ruder. O’Connor finished the year with 17 goals and 14 assists for the Bullpups, who made it to the Class 4-1A State Quarterfinals before falling to state runner-up Winfield. Ruder, meanwhile, picked up 15 goals and seven assists during MHS’ 10-8-1 season.
O’Connor will join the Benedictine College soccer program in the fall, while Ruder has signed with Washburn University.
Making the second team on offense was freshman Paige Schmidt. Schmidt had a strong first season for the Bullpups, scoring six times and picking up five assists.
Also making the second team was freshman defender Breckon Kaufman.
The 4-1A KSWKSCA offensive player of the year was Trinity Academy’s Grace Linton. Hailey Myers of state champion Topeka Hayden was the defensive player of the year.
Winfield’s Don Birney was the 4-1A coach of the year.
