  • The McPherson 14-year-old Babe Ruth team went 3-1 in doubleheader action last week.
    McPherson rolled to 11-8 and 12-5 wins over Halstead in the first doubleheader.
    Raine Reitsma picked up the win on the mound in game one, giving up three runs off two hits in four innings. He struck out nine.
    Jack Reifschneider and Alex Kalkhorst both had two RBI’s in the game. Kalkhorst, Jeffrey Reed, Mikey Saverino and Paxton Leaf all scored twice.
    Casen Hoover was the winner of game two against Halstead, allowing two hits and picking up eight strike outs during three innings of work.
    Reitsma, Leaf and Alex Sitts all picked up RBI’s, while Sitts, Reed and Saverino all scored two runs.
    The second doubleheader last week was against the 15-13 year old Abilene squad. McPherson dropped game one 14-1, but turned around and blew out Abilene 10-2 in game two.
    Tyler Wheat went 2-for-2 with an two RBI’s and a run scored in game one. Sitts was 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI.Reifschneider was the game two winner, allowing only two hits and picking up seven strikeouts.
    He helped his own cause with two RBI’s. Also picking up a pair of RBI’s in game two were Sitts, Reed and Saverino.
    In addition to the doubleheaders, the Babe Ruth squad was also recently the second place finisher in the McPherson Spring Slam, marking the third time they have finished second in a tournament this season.
    McPherson defeated Rock Creek 15-0 in their first game, then blasted Topeka 17-2 to earn a shot at the championship.
    Unfortunately, McPherson’s pitching struggled against Concordia, giving up 18 walks or hit-batters, and fell 20-3.
