After much speculation about the fate of the Class 4A State Volleyball Tournament following last week’s split into two divisions, the Kansas State High School Activities Association announced Wednesday that 4A will remain at the Bicentennial Center in Salina.

Both 4A Div. I and Div. II will play out of Salina. McPherson High School, the reigning Class 4A champion, will be a member of Div. I starting this fall.

Class 4A schools voted 42-22 in favor of the split, with those in favor citing the wide enrollment disparity as a major reason for desiring the breakup. The split will effect volleyball, football, basketball, baseball and softball.

The only changes to the sites come from Class 3A and Class 2A, who will both be played at Emporia State University’s White Auditorium. The Class 3A tournament had also been in Salina, but KSHSAA stated in a press release the change was needed after the split of Class 4A.

Class 6A and 5A remain at the Kansas Expocentre in Topeka, while both divisions of Class 1A will continue to be based out of Gross Auditorium at Fort Hays State University.

Football sites were not announced, as the Class 4A split for that sports does not go into effect until the 2014 season.
