  • The McPherson Aquapups had a good showing Tuesday night against Wellington at the McPherson Water Park before lightning forced the cancellation of the meet.
As a team, the Aquapups won 360-258, with the individual medleys not able to get through all age groups before the weather intervened. The 400-yard freestyle was not competed at all.
Individually, Hailey Cutting and Will Powers both won three races total.
Picking up two wins were Megan Cutting, Ellexis Duran, Alex Houston, Matt Powers, Zane Richter and Wesley Wurm. Cutting, Powers and Richter all had their last races cancelled due to weather.
Cutting, who will be an eighth grader at McPherson Middle School in the fall, is already swimming at a high school state qualifying pace.
Last fall, as a 12-year-old, she swam the 100-yard breast stroke in a time of 1 minute, 19.8 seconds, which would qualify her for the state championships, as that qualifying time is 1:21.03.
Swimmers winning one race included Issac Duran, Courtney French, Ryan Gillis, Sean Gorman, Mitch Harger, Katie Hodge, Libby Hodge, Malik Lawrence, Anne Leaf, Ryan Trost, Jori VanGoethem, Roary Whorton and Emma Williams.
The Aquapup relay teams won 12 out of the 19 races.
