The McPherson American Legion Post 24 Senior and Junior baseball teams are gearing up for the first-ever Bob Hooper Classic over the next two weeks.

The senior tournament will be Friday through Sunday at Grant Sports Complex, while the juniors will play June 28-30, also at Grant.

Taking part in the senior field, aside from McPherson, will be Nickerson, Wellington, Junction City, Buhler and Newton.

Games start Friday at 5 p.m., as Nickerson will meet Wellington and Junction City will take on Buhler.
The 7:30 p.m. games Friday will see McPherson host Wellington and Buhler face Newton.

On Saturday, McPherson will meet Nickerson at 11 a.m., while Junction City will also take on Newton.

At 1:30 p.m., McPherson and Buhler will clash, while the second game will feature Wellington and Junction City. The 4 p.m. game will see Newton meet Nickerson.

Sunday’s games will begin at 10 a.m., with the Nos. 1 and 4 seed facing each other, while the other seeded game will feature the two- and three-seeds.

The winners of the 10 a.m. games Sunday will play for the championship at 12:30 p.m., while the consolation game will feature the Nos. 5 and 6 seeds.

All games have a two-hour time limit, except for the championship game. No new inning will start after the two hours are up.

The tournament, and the junior one next week, honors Bob Hooper, a long-time member of Post 24 who had a passion for both McPherson baseball and basketball. Hooper passed away in June 2011.
