  • Bulldog soccer adds five more

  • The McPherson College men's soccer program has added four experienced transfers and another freshman to its 2013 recruiting class, as announced by head men's soccer coach Doug Quint.

  • The McPherson College men's soccer program has added four experienced transfers and another freshman to its 2013 recruiting class, as announced by head men's soccer coach Doug Quint.
    These five join the earlier signings to make up ten new players set to report to pre-season camp on Aug. 9.
    "We are extremely pleased to add such quality players in this recruiting class," said Quint. "Talent is great to possess but it's even better when that talent possess college experience. These guys will contribute immediately to our success this fall."
    Kevin Aka comes to MC as a 5-foot-9 forward from Carl Sandburg College in Illinois, where he was the leading scorer with nine goals, four assists for 22 points. He was named to the All-Academic Team and Dean's List while serving as captain for Head Coach Allen Eskridge.
    Prior to NJCAA ball, Aka went to school at Cite Scolaire Julie Daubie in France. Kevin will major in graphic design at McPherson College.
    "Kevin is a dynamic front runner with the ability to break people down,” Quint said. “He's very strong on the ball with his back to goal and will provide us with another weapon up front."
    Doug Williamson ventures to Mac as a 6 foot, 2 inch center back from Feather River College. He was named All-Golden Valley Conference while anchoring the back-line for head coach Don Williams. He played his prep career at Bonanza High School in Las Vegas, Nev.
    Williamson competed at the club level for the Neusport FC in Las Vegas and will major in physical education at McPherson College.
    "Defensively we have taken a huge step forward with Doug committing to us,” Quint said. “He's a strong collegiate defender that will be an immediate impact in our back-line this fall."
    Octavio Villa joins the Bulldogs as a 6-0 midfielder/defender from Neosho County Community College where he was a two-year starter for head coach Steven Harrison.
    Villa competed at the prep level for De Soto HS where scored 35 goals and had 17 assists while being named All-League, All-Area, All-Region and All-State both in 2010 and 2011. His senior season he led De Soto to a 4th place finish in state.
    Villa competed at the club level for KCFC and will major in biology at McPherson College.
    "Octavio is a composed player on the ball with field awareness,” Quint said. “He has the ability to play in the midfield or in the back-line. That versatility will be very important to our team. Octavio is an outstanding signing for us."  
    Danny Calleja comes to MC as a 5-7 back from MiraCosta College in California. He was twice named to the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference while captaining the team for head coach Frank Zimmerman.
    Page 2 of 2 - Calleja competed at the club level for the San Diego Surf Academy which competed in the US Development Academy from 2007-2010. He will major in environmental stewardship at McPherson College.
    "Danny is an outstanding defender that has a lot of experience,” Quint said. “That experience will play a very important role for us next fall. We needed to improve defensively in a lot of areas and Danny's signing does that. "
    Zack Sudler is a 5-foot-5 midfielder from Creekview High School where he was a two-time all-district selection for Head Coach Pierre Barboza.
    Sudler led the Mustangs to the playoffs three consecutive years while winning districts in 2012.
    He played club for FC Premier in the Dallas Classic D1 League where they finished second at Disney and were State Cup Finalists. Sudler will major in psychology at McPherson College.
    "Zack is a great addition and I expect him to make an impact immediately as a freshman,” Quint said.
    “The level of club soccer that Zack has played will make his transition to the collegiate level smooth.
    He's a very quick, dynamic little player that will fill some voids we lost to graduation.”
    McPherson opens the season at home Aug. 17 against Cloud County Community College.
