The McPherson Garden Club visited the Yardstick Children’s Garden in Assaria June 11. There are 24 plots that are one yard wide for children ages 5 to 15. The child is responsible for planting and caring for the garden. The garden was started by Luise Collins 20 years ago; she is now 95. Once section of the garden has raised beds. Older children prepare and plant vegetables. The produce is taken to farmers markets and the profit used for the upkeep of the garden. They can enter the fruit of their labor at the 4-H fair.
