Trinity Lutheran Church, 119 N. Elm in McPherson, will host two blood drives next week. The first will be from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday. The second will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.
The American Red Cross asks all eligible blood and platelet donors to join the Summer of Stories campaign, which runs through Sept. 9. Through Summer of Stories, the organization hopes to encourage at least two more donors to give blood at every Red Cross blood drive this summer — above what’s expected — to help ensure lifesaving blood products are available at a moment’s notice.
Historically, during the summer months of June, July and August, about two fewer donors give blood at each Red Cross blood drive than what patients need. But, this seasonal challenge can be overcome two generous donors at a time, at every blood drive, every day.
Throughout the campaign, donors will be encouraged to give blood or platelets regularly, especially around summer holidays, when donations tend to drop even more. To support summer holiday donations, all donors who present to give during specified time frames will be entered for a chance to win an American Express gift card.

How to donate blood
Simply call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental consent in some states), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
