At about 9:30 a.m. today, an out-of-control fire erupted near 27th Avenue and Comanche.
The fire was reportedly started by a blown transformer. Sparks from the transformer were blown into a nearby stubble field, where hot winds expanded the fire throughout the field, catching nearby hedge trees on fire.
There were no reported injuries.
Emergency Management reported the fire burned somewhere between 60 to 80 acres of stubble field and trees, but was stopped short of a standing wheat field a half a mile north of Comanche near 27th Avenue.
No structures were threatened by the fire.
Canton firefighters, Galva firefighters, Moundridge firefighters, Goessel firefighters, McPherson firefighters and Canton EMS personnel responded to the scene.
