  • McPherson’s Board of Public Utilities has two storage sites within the city — a warehouse at 412 W. Sutherland and a lot in the 500 block of West Washington.
During a budget hearing for BPU, Tim Maier, BPU general manager, said he wished to consolidate storage to the 412 West Sutherland facility and remodel the building to meet current standards.
“The last time that facility was improved would have been in the 1960’s,” Maier said.
Improvements to the building would include new insulation, a new air-conditioning unit and an additional bathroom. BPU also would remodel existing portions of the building.
BPU committee members also discussed installing additional security cameras at the warehouse to prevent theft from outdoor storage. Maier said much of the items in outdoor storage at the facility couldn’t be resold at retail.
Construction on the site has not yet begun.
    BPU considers adjusting software
Maier also shared the possibility of making modifications to BPU’s financial software between 2014 and 2016.
BPU and McPherson city offices share financial software. Mayor Tom Brown advised BPU committee members to acquire separate audits and determine the best systems for both offices.
“Look at what’s best for BPU and what’s best for the city,” he said.
A public hearing on BPU’s budget will be at 2:45 p.m. Aug. 5 at BPU’s main facility, 401 W. Kansas Ave.
