  • Gena Sue Steffes, 55, of McPherson, passed away at 3:15 p.m. Sunday, June 23, 2013, while in the company of family members at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, Wichita.
    Gena was born on July 28, 1957, in McPherson, the daughter of Barbara Lou (Gayer) Eberle, and Robert "Bob" Eberle.
    Gena attended the Washington and Lincoln grade schools, Park School, McPherson Junior High School and graduated  in 1975 from McPherson High School, all of McPherson. She then attended Kansas State University, Manhattan, and University of Kansas, Lawrence, and graduated from Kansas State University.
    She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church McPherson, where she was a member of the Altar Society.
    Gena was a homemaker and worked for Sterling Drug and later for Mainly Frames in McPherson and was currently working for USD 418 as a paraprofessional.
    Gena was a member of the Turkey Creek Ladies Golf Association.
    Gena Sue Eberle was united in marriage to Steve W. Steffes on June 28, 1980, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, McPherson.
    Surviving family members include her husband Steve Steffes, of McPherson; her children, Tyler Steffes of Topeka, and Jackie S. Lima and her husband Carlos of Kansas City, Mo.; her mother Barbara Eberle, of McPherson; other relatives and a host of friends.
    Gena was preceded in death by her father, Robert E. Eberle; her sister, Susan Rene Eberle, and her brother, Brad Scott. Eberle.
    Friends are invited to call from 5 to 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2013, with the rosary at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, McPherson.
    A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 27 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, McPherson, with Fr. Hien Nguyen officiating.
    The final resting place will be at the McPherson Cemetery McPherson.
