  • Swede spikers sign Colorado senior

  • Elin Saxon of Woodland Park, Colo., has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at Bethany College for the 2013-2014 academic year.

  • Elin Saxon of Woodland Park, Colo., has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at Bethany College for the 2013-2014 academic year.
    Saxon comes to Bethany from Woodland Park High School where she played volleyball for three years.
    Her senior season she earned 4A Colorado Springs Metro League Best Defensive Player, recording 205 digs and 43 blocks. Saxon earned Second Team Colorado Springs Metro League honors, Courier View Co-Volleyball Player of the Year honors, and was the team captain her senior year.
    Her junior year she earned 4A Colorado Springs Metro League Best Server (90 percent) honors and All Conference Honorable Mention Metro League honors. Saxon was a two-time Panther  Most Valuable Player and two -time Rotary Champion.
    In addition to volleyball, Saxon also played basketball for two years and soccer for one year. She earned the 2011 Multi-Sport Athlete Award. Saxon served as vice president all four years of high school.
    "We are very happy and excited to have Elin as a Swede,” head coach Nathalea Stephenson said. “She is a very coachable and competitive individual. One of the things that drew us to Elin was her aggressiveness and her ability to see the court. We look for exciting things from Elin."
    Saxon is the daughter of David and Teri Saxon. She has a 3.34 grade point average and plans to major in biology.
