Bethany College men’s basketball coach Clair Oleen has beefed up his ranks with a pair of recent signings.


Spencer Nusser of St. John has signed a letter of intent to play men's basketball at Bethany College for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Nusser, a 6-foot-1 guard comes to Bethany from St. John High School where he played basketball. He earned First Team All-League honors, 1A All-State honors and was a member of the 1A state basketball championship team.

Nusser averaged 14.5 points per game, seven rebounds per game and two assists per game. He shot 57 percent from the  field.

"We are pleased to have Spencer Nusser join us at Bethany College and become a part of Bethany basketball,” Oleen said. “Spencer comes to us from a very successful basketball program at St. John, Kan."

Nusser is the son of Lori Nusser and plans to major in health and physical education.

Also joining the Swedes this fall will be Adolphus Ford of Holly Hill, Fla.

Ford, a six-foot guard, comes to Bethany from Father Lopez Catholic School in Daytona Beach, Fla.

He averaged 18 points per game, eight rebounds per game and five assists per game. Ford had a 52 percent field goal percentage and a 72 percent free-throw shooting average.

"We are pleased to have AJ Ford choose to attend Bethany College and become a part of Bethany basketball,” Oleen said. “AJ is a very athletic player who can get to the rim and has a good midrange game. He is a very mature young man who has a burning passion for defense which we really like.”

Oleen added Ford graduated from Bethany assistant coach Denver Cobb's alma mater high school, Father Lopez, and that Coach Cobb began recruiting Ford to Bethany last summer after Cobb was hired.

Ford is the son of Adolphus Ford and Sherlotta Krown. He has a 3.8 grade point average and plans to major in business management.
