  • The Canton-Galva Babe Ruth baseball team is one doubleheader away from claiming the Cottonwood Valley League after Monday’s home sweep of Peabody.
    The Eagles won both games by a score of 11-0, with Tanner Klingensmith and Nick Bray the winning pitchers.
    Klingensmith gave up only two hits in winning game one, striking out two and walking two in his two innings. Ryan Grant and Jordan Gagnebin both pitched an inning in relief, with neither giving up a hit to close out the win.
    Bray, Grant and Ethan Loyd all had two hits, with Bray driving in five runs.
    Canton-Galva put game two away early, scoring eight runs in the bottom of the first. They added two in the second and one in the first to solidify the four-inning, run-rule victory.
    Grant led the offense with two hits, including a double, and three RBIs. Bray struck out four and walked one over the course of the first two innings in picking up the win. He gave up only two hits.
    Reed Wiens finished out the game with four strike outs, no walks, three hits and no runs.
    The last game of the regular season is Friday at Marion, who is two games back of the Eagles in the Cottonwood Valley League.
