  • MHS, Hesston clash for summer league title

  • The 2013 McPherson College Summer Basketball League Championship Nights and All-Star Games will be held next week at the Sport Center on the campus of McPherson College.

  • The 2013 McPherson College Summer Basketball League Championship Nights and All-Star Games will be held next week at the Sport Center on the campus of McPherson College.
    This summer, 36 teams competed in three different divisions. The champions will be crowned in the varsity boys on Monday and in the junior varsity boys on Wednesday.
    “We have had a great summer of basketball at the college,” Bulldog head coach Tim Swartzendruber, who directs the league along with Dave Barrett, said.  “I believe we will have great games in the championships of each division and we look forward to the all-star games.”
    In the varsity boys division, the two teams with the best records throughout the summer, McPherson and Hesston will battle for the title.
    In an earlier game this summer, Hesston defeated the Bullpups. This game will tip-off at approximately 7 p.m. following the third place game which will feature the Berean Academy Warriors and the Hutchinson Salt Hawks.  
    In the finals of the “B” bracket, Inman and Moundridge will face off.  This game will be held at 7 p.m. in the Auxiliary Gym following the third place game between Smoky Valley and the Hutchinson Gold squad.
    The Junior Varsity division will feature McPherson battling the Wichita Homeschool Warriors at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
    This game will follow the third place game between Hesston and Hutchinson Trinity. In the “B” bracket, Berean Academy will face Nickerson for title.
    And in the third place game in the “B” bracket, Moundridge will meet Lyons.
    On Monday night following the championship game, the second annual All-Star game will be held.
    The Red Squad roster includes: Jezel Parra, Hutchinson; Kalen Hilst, Hutchinson; Brett Weinbrenner, Hillsboro; Grant Raleigh, Hesston; Loren Pearce, Berean Academy; Ryan Schadler, Hesston; and Zack Konen, Little River.  
    The White Squad features: Justin Friesen, Inman; Tyler Cottam, Inman; Kyler Kinnaman, McPherson; Wyatt McKinney, Hesston; Peter Horton, McPherson; Joey Stockinger, Nickerson; Tevin Rankin, Little River; and Tyler McCartney.  
    The second annual “Futures” All-Star Game will be held on Wednesday at approximately 8 p.m. following the Junior Varsity Championship Game.
    The Red Squad is as follows: Zach Vogt, Hesston; Jon Weber, Hesston; Ben Roth, Berean Academy; Noah Roberts, Wichita Warriors; Preston Loewen, Hillsboro; Jacob Loecker, McPherson; Joel Holloway, Moundridge; and Isaac McClure, Wichita Warriors. 
    The White Squad will feature: Kolby Reed, McPherson; Caden Byers, Smoky Valley; Chris Bell, Sterling; Coleman Jordan, Nickrson; Greyson Wood, Inman; Jordan Lehman, Nickerson; and Zach Esau, Hesston.
